This fjord is both deep and narrow, with a maximum depth of roughly 962 meters below sea level and an average width of less than 2 kilometers. The Naeoyfjord splits off to the west from the main fjord about 11 kilometers south of the fjord’s mouth at Mt. Beitelen. Located at the very mouth of the Aurlandsfjord is the small community of Flam. Two other small villages, Aurlandsvangen and Undredal, can be found along the fjord, in addition to Flam.
