Cruises to Lofoten Islands, Norway

Lofoten is a group of islands located north of the Arctic Circle in the county of Nordland, Norway. Between the mainland and the Lofoten lies the open Vestfjord. With its postcard-looking small fishing villages nestled in fjords, dotting a very rugged coast with abrupt peaks rising directly from the ocean, the archipelago is often described as one of the most scenic parts of Norway. Despite its far-north location of the Arctic Circle, archipelago experiences one of the world’s largest elevated temperature anomalies relative to its high latitude. Even the winters are relatively mild in Lofoten Islands because of the warming effect of the Gulf Stream. Lofoten has a strong connection to the Viking Age, and at Lofotr Viking Museum you can experience the Viking Age as it really was. At Borg, archaeologists have discovered the largest Viking longhouse ever found from this era. The building is 83 metres long and has been reconstructed as a living museum.

Leknes

Leknes’s natural surroundings are considered to be among the most beautiful in Norway, including mountains, peaks, cliffs, and white sandy beaches. Climbers, cyclists, and other outdoor enthusiasts go to the Lofoten Islands to witness this spectacular natural show.

Svolvaer

Svolvaergeita, the most recognized icon of Lofoten and Svolvaer, is a popular summer destination for mountain climbers. Climbers from all around the world flock here to jump between the peak’s two horns. The annual cod fishing festival is one of the winter’s highlights.

Midnight Sun

The midnight sun is a unique summer phenomenon that occurs above the Arctic Circle. In the summer between May 25 and July 17, you can enjoy 24 hours of daylight, the Midnight Sun, perfect for fitting in all the activities this spot has to offer. Sun does not rise from December 9 to January 4.

Northern Lights

Winter can be harsh and lengthy, but snow can transform the countryside into a winter wonderland. Lofoten is full of surprises, and at night, you might even catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights gracefully moving over the night sky. The Northern Lights are one of the great attractions of the Lofoten Islands, and they are one of the most spectacular natural phenomena our world has to offer.
