Naeroyfjord

Naeroyfjord, one of Norway’s most popular tourist destinations is a fjord formed when a glacier retreats, after carving its typical U-shaped valley, and the sea fills the resulting valley floor. Norway’s breathtaking fjords are a must-see on every visit to the country. They are unquestionably what the country is most famous for and the primary motivator for many travelers to visit. Since many of the Norwegian shores are formed by these long, narrow inlets surrounded by saline water, Norwegian Fjords cruises are fantastic ways to explore magical fjords. The Naeroyfjord is considered to be one of the best-known.

Cruising Naeroyfjord

Naeroyfjord is one of many fjordarms in the 204-km-long Sognefjord, the “King of the Fjords.” The steep, snow-capped mountains that surround the small and magnificent Naeroyfjord rise to an altitude of 1800 meters above sea level. There are waterfalls tumbling from the mountains, and quaint towns are scattered over the countryside. As it makes its way through the valley of Naeroydalen, the river Naeroydalselvi eventually empties into the fjord near the town of Gudvangen on European Highway 16. The Bakka Church and the settlement of Bakka can be found on the western side of the fjord. Naeroyfjord is best explored by boat, kayak, or on foot through the scenic mountains and valleys that surround it. Take a deep breath of the clean air and fill your glass with water from one of the many waterfalls or rivers that flow directly into the fjord. Take in the tranquility, the sights and sounds of nature, and the roar of the waterfalls. In 2005, both Naeroyfjord and the nearby Geirangerfjord were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Cruises to the Norwegian Fjords, with Naeroyfjord as a selling point, are most popular in the summer when the weather is pleasant and there are more options for outdoor activities. In the fall, Naeroyfjord is a great place to visit because the leaves are bright and beautiful.
