Naeroyfjord

Naeroyfjord, one of Norway’s most popular tourist destinations is a fjord formed when a glacier retreats, after carving its typical U-shaped valley, and the sea fills the resulting valley floor. As it makes its way through the valley of Naeroydalen, the river Naeroydalselvi eventually empties into the fjord near the town of Gudvangen on European Highway 16. The Bakka Church and the settlement of Bakka can be found on the western side of the fjord. Naeroyfjord is best explored by boat, kayak, or on foot through the scenic mountains and valleys that surround it. Take a deep breath of the clean air and fill your glass with water from one of the many waterfalls or rivers that flow directly into the fjord. Take in the tranquility, the sights and sounds of nature, and the roar of the waterfalls. In 2005, both Naeroyfjord and the nearby Geirangerfjord were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
