Norway and Norwegian Fjords

Cruising to Kjollefjord, Norway

Kjøllefjord, NorwayKjollefjord, a tiny but vibrant community in Finnmark County, Norway, is the administrative center of Lebesby Municipality. The settlement is located at the head of the fjord on the Nordkinn Peninsula, with a beautiful view of the ocean and the Finnkirka rock formation. Finnkirka is a majestic and worn sea cliff that resembles a church and is located on the west side of Nordkinnhalvoya. It is thought to have been a place where the Sami made sacrifices in the past, and sailors still use it as a landmark.

Kjollefjord is a cultural destination with a plethora of festivals. Every summer in late June, there is the ChristFestival, a small music festival named for and a tribute to Kjollefjord-born blues singer Christian (Kris) Lyngedal. Here you can also find Foldalbruket, an old fisherman’s stop that has been turned into an inn and museum, and the Christensen Gallery, which focuses on art from the Barents Region.

Hurtigruten cruise line is one of the most common ways to get here. Every day of the year, they call at ports all the way from Bergen to Kirkenes and return. So you can board the ship in one port and sail till you reach Kjollefjord. You will have some interesting experiences on the cruise, and you will witness how Norwegian culture evolves as you travel north or south.
