Geiranger

Geiranger, which is located in the Geirangerfjorden and is the third largest cruise ship port in the country. Geiranger has one of the most beautiful settings in all of western Norway. It is home to some of the most breathtaking scenery in the entire globe and has been recognized as the top tourism destination in all of Scandinavia. The hamlet itself is built on a series of tiny shelves spread out over one of the steepest hillsides you can imagine.

A little tourist community, Geiranger may be found in the Sunnmore district of More og Romsdal County in the westernmost portion of Norway. It is at the head of the Geirangerfjorden, which is a branch of the larger Storfjorden, and it is located in the Stranda Municipality. Alesund is the closest city to the airport. The Geirangerfjord region has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site ever since it was first nominated in 2005.

Geiranger attractions

Several deserted farms can be found lining the shores of the fjord on either side. The farms of Skagefla, Knivsfla, and Blomberg are the ones that receive the greatest number of guests. Skagefla is the only one of the others that can be approached on foot from Geiranger; the others can only be seen from the fjord.

Cruise ships frequently call at this World Heritage site as one of their ports of call. May until the beginning of September make up the height of the tourist season. From Geiranger, visitors can take guided tours of the historic farms Knivsfla and Skagefla, which are located nearby. Do not pass up the opportunity to see the breathtaking waterfalls and fjords, particularly the Seven Sisters waterfall, which can be found just west of Geiranger, as well as the Suitor and the Bridal Veil.

Seven Sisters Waterfall

About 6.5 kilometers west of the town of Geiranger, across the fjord from the abandoned Skagefla farm to the south, is where you’ll find the waterfall. It is part of the Geiranger World Heritage Site.

Water level, which is influenced by snow thaw and precipitation, determines the visibility of all seven falls. A boat ride down Geirangerfjord is the best way to see the Seven Sisters waterfall, which is naturally more apparent during the big snow melting period in May and July.

Knivsfla waterfall

The Knivsfla waterfall had an appearance that was comparable to that of the Seven Sisters waterfall, with the exception that this one cascades over a ledge. The Seven Sisters waterfalls are found in close proximity to this site.
