Skjolden sits near the terminus of the Sognefjord, a fjord that is every bit as beautiful as the longer and more well-known Hardangerfjord. This is a little town, but they recently built a cruise terminal, so depending on the day’s schedule and the length of your ship, you may be able to dock instead of using a tender. The journey begins at the foot of Norway’s tallest mountains in Jotunheimen National Park and passes through the gorgeous Lusterfjord on its way to Jostedalsbreen, the largest glacier on the European peninsula. Skjolden is a port of call where cruise passengers can get off the ship and be near the territory once occupied by the Vikings’ most dreaded enemies. That is, at least, what the Vikings thought.

The Sognefjell Mountain Road
Sognefjell Mountain Road is a national tourism route in Norway due to its breathtaking beauty. Both Luster and Lom can be reached by this route. This route travels through the Sognefjell mountain range. This highway serves as the primary access point to Jotunheimen National Park.
Jotunheimen National Park
High mountains, glaciers, and deep lakes are the hallmarks of Norway’s Jotunheimen National Park. The tallest mountains in Norway are found in Jotunheimen, where you can find over 200 peaks that are higher than 2000 meters (6560 feet). As you approach Skjolden, the beautiful environment along the coastlines is enhanced by farms, creating a picture-perfect setting.
Jostedalsbreen National Park (Breheimsenteret)
Jostedalsbreen National Park (Breheimsenteret) is another adjacent park that is easily accessible from Skjolden. When it comes to continental Europe, Jostedalsbreen is by far the biggest glacier. At the Breheimsenteret, you can go white-water rafting, kayaking, or hiking on a glacier. It’s a 60-kilometer drive from Skjolden.
The Feigumfossen Waterfall
In Norway, one of the tallest waterfalls is located at Feigumfossen. The Feigumfossen Waterfall is one of the highest in Norway, with a free fall of 715 feet (218 meters). The waterfall is visible from the road on the way to Nigardsbreen and Urnes on coach tours. There are 15 kilometers between you and Skjolden.
