Hike up for spectacular vistas, or work up a sweat climbing, rafting, or kayaking. Hellesylt is a delightful destination and a great stopover on the way to the Geirangerfjord.
Walk out onto the bridge that spans the Hellesylt waterfall, which runs through the heart of town. The white water is especially powerful in early summer, when melted snow from the mountain range runs down.
The waterfall is one of the most beautiful places in Hellesylt and one of the most photographed motifs in the area. The falls divide Hellesylt in two, giving the small village a distinct feel. Akerneset, a mountain overlooking Hellesylt, is slowly eroding into Sunnylvsfjord. A collapse could result in a tsunami that destroys most of downtown Hellesylt.
Traveling to this place will provide you with some breathtaking sights because you can see the pouring water from above. In addition to the waterfall, you should stop at the church for a view of the mountains and the fascinating fjords. Beautifully renovated old farmhouses are strewn throughout the hills and mountains, many in daring and difficult settings. Hellesylt is a natural retreat for anyone who enjoys observing the beauty and wonder of nature. It is an often overlooked location in Norway because it is less urban and more picturesque.
